The Rock County Sheriff’s office and Highway Division are making sandbags available to all county residents in anticipation of flooding caused by rain and snowmelt.
Sand and sandbags will be available for Rock County residents at the following locations at no cost:
- Rock Town Hall: Sand and sandbags will be available at the Rock Town Hall at 5102 S CTH D, Afton WI. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags.
- Newville Park and Ride: Sand and sandbags will be available at the Newville Park and Ride located off I-39/90 at exit 163. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags.
- City of Janesville: The City of Janesville is providing sandbags for Rock County residents at 900 N. Parker Drive. Please call the City Services Center at 608-755-3110 for instructions for pickup.
- City of Beloit: The City of Beloit is providing sandbags at 2351 Springbrook Court. Residents can pick up at this location. Please call 608-364-2929 with any questions regarding pickup.
A slow-no-wake order is in effect for the Rock River after US Geological Survey gauges at Afton show the water level has risen to 8.23 feet.
County ordinance requires a slow-no-wake speed restriction be placed on the Rock River when water levels exceed 6.50 feet in Afton, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies will begin placing slow-no-wake signs along the river at all public access points between the Indianford Dam and W B R Townline Road Bridge
